City of Arcadia to Upgrade the William Tyson Wastewater Treatment Plant with Advanced MBR Technology

The City of Arcadia, with funding made possible through a Supplemental Appropriation for Hurricanes Fiona and Ian (SAHFI) Clean Water State Revolving Fund grant (in the amount of $19,823,318), is moving forward with plans to replace the existing William Tyson Wastewater Treatment Plant (WTWWTP) located at 210 Parker Avenue, Arcadia, Florida, 34266. This initiative addresses years of operational challenges and regulatory requirements aimed at improving water quality and protecting the environment.

The current facility, which utilizes trickling filter technology, is one of the oldest operating wastewater treatment plants in Florida and no longer meets environmental standards. To ensure compliance and achieve enhanced nutrient removal, the city will construct a new state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility featuring Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology. This advanced process will deliver superior nutrient removal, improve operational efficiency, and position Arcadia for long-term sustainability in wastewater management.

The new plant is designed to correct existing deficiencies, meet stringent effluent limits, and support the City’s commitment to environmental stewardship for decades to come.
